Certainly he makes some small errors, though he professionally continues on as he makes his corrections: that is why the 5 stars for his performance. The performance by the reader is bang on as he tries, and succeeds, to put a different voice, even though subtly changed in a few, for each character that is introduced. Published in 1844, it is often considered one of the great thrillers of all time and, along with The Three Musketeers, Dumas most popular work. After having read a few classic books from the 17 and 18 hundreds, my opinion is that The Count Of Monte Cristo far exceeds all others in its genre except for, maybe, Dumas' own The Three Musceteers. Finally I noticed that it said it was an abridged copy, and well goddamn yes they must have abridged it quite a bit to get it that short!Ĭurious, I went to see how long the unabridged copy was.
